The children are back at school and the leaves are starting to show off their autumn colours – it’s that time of year when all thoughts start to turn to Christmas. Many retailers are beginning to stock their shelves with lots of goodies with which to tempt the shopper to part with money and, in this time of economic uncertainty, they will be coming up with all kinds of ways to do this.
For most people, an eye will need to be kept on the family budget and a great way to provide lovely but inexpensive gifts for family and friends is to make them. Lots of very crafty people spend a good few months of the year making presents, and ideas abound from knitting or crocheting scarves, hats and gloves, even cuddly toys. If they are handy with a needle, they will be able to make all sorts of different gifts. Cross-stitch is another popular craft which can be used to make framed pictures or samplers.
Many people search every year for something just that little bit different to give as a present, and there are many great gift ideas around. For instance, a hamper is easy to put together, and can be themed to suit the individual – a garden hamper for the keen gardener, perhaps, or a basket filled with ‘retro’ sweets, easily available online, for someone with a sweet tooth who hankers after the sweets they remember from their childhood.
Grandparents appreciate a new photo album, and they will love it even more if it is filled with photos of the grandchildren taken throughout the year. There are also many companies today who will apply a photo to all sorts of items, such as mugs, t-shirts, even bed linen, making an ordinary gift really special.
A little time spent now, thinking about the people you are giving to, will produce all sorts of great ideas to make Christmas extra special this year.
