The Colors of Gold

We all know what gold is. Not only has it been used throughout history as a decorative material, it was also used as a form of currency. Even nowadays, it attracts people because of its beauty and because of its value – see, for example, the gold standard and how it affects markets worldwide. Yellow gold, although a rare mineral, is widespread enough that there’s a chance that you might own at least one gold piece. Not only that, but gold is also used in electronics because of its electrical conducing properties. So, the odds that you have some gold somewhere in your house are pretty large. But you’ll notice that I referred to it as yellow gold. In its purest form, gold is yellow but it can be mixed with other metals to give it a more exotic color. The most common ones are white, red and pink but gold can also be green, grey, black and even purple and blue. And colored gold is becoming increasingly popular as people get a lithe tired of “normal” gold. Men’s white gold wedding bands are very common nowadays, as are pendants and necklaces made out of pink or rose gold. And the lure and attraction of gold remains, even in different colors.
